We rescued 2 chickens a short time after Easter. However I have no idea what breed they are. I'm also curious about gender. I really think 1 might be a roo. Sorry they are not the best pictures. Any idea's???

These 2 stick together. We have another 25 that we added these 2 with. They have all done pretty good together so far.

The first one looks like a cross bred. You are correct, he is a rooster.

Second one is a gold sex link pullet. She will be a very good egg layer!!!

The top one looks like a production Red. The top one is a cockerel, bottom is a hen. Pullet does look like a sex link, maybe gold sex link?

Vote also top one is a roo, bottom a girl. The girl looks just like what we buy around here as "Red Stars" or red sex links. Wonder if they are second generation red sex links / production reds, roo looks a lot like some hatchery NHRs I've gotten.

the first looks to be like a New hampshire red cockerel the 2nd is a red sex link hen

I figured he was probably a roo. I don't want to candle egg's. How old does he have to be for me to worry about that???

You shouldn't have to candle eggs unless you intend on hatching them. Your hens eggs will be fertile, but for them to hatch, she must be broody and sit on them for a day to start development. If you collect eggs every day, and don't allow the number of eggs in the nest to build up, you shouldn't have to worry about it. :)

I'm sure my newbie-ness is showing its self. This is our second flock. We have 27 birds right now. Our first flock was only 5. A friend bought them from us since he wanted hens already laying eggs. I sell my eggs to co-workers and would hate to give them an egg they wished they hadn't cracked! This is our 3rd roo between the 2 flocks. We gave our past roo's away on Craigslist. He is probably about 4 months old since he was someone's Easter gift. He also hasn't started crowing yet. I do gather eggs multiple times a day. Thanks for all the info!
