So my grandma is one of the only people in my family that have taken a large interest in my poultry obsession. Ive had ducks since 07 and just got geese last summer.

Well since I sold 50+ of my ducks in August and only have 8 scovies left she does not get as many eggs from me as she used to. My One female goose is also getting ready to lay.

So she is very very intersted in my eggs as she blows them out and makes ornaments out of them. Well seh happens to have her "own" ducks. Three muscovy drakes and a ton of wild mallards that asre at her local neighborhood pond. There are also canada geese that hang out there.

Well the other day we are stopped by the pond she she can feed "her" boys some whole corn as a treat and she turns to me and says

" I really wish i could figure out where these mallards and geese have their nest" She says innocently.
Looking at her out of the corner of my eye I give a curious " Why would you want to know that?" Knowing where the conversation was going I gave her my full attention, waiting for the words I knew were coming.
"Well I just want to see how many eggs they might be laying..." SHe wont look at me as she carries on in her innocent tone once more.
"And why would you need to see them to know that when I can give you the answers?"

"Well I want to see how many they might be able to do without."

Grandmas. NOW - I let her know how illegal that was and that if she did something so outrageous i would disown her and she wouldnt get any more of my eggs. ( Not really but it was a good threat at the time) So even though she wants to, I know she wont. Im still going to keep an eye on that pesky old grandma of mine

The mallards eat the corn they steal from the Muscovies, not really anyway to stop them. I know its not good to feed wild animals such as the mallards but there are only about half a dozen of them that come when they see her drive up.

Its gotta be fun to watch them! My mom has a pond right off her deck about 100 or so feet away. She gets a family of mallards every year in it and they raise a family. Those little ducks are so cute!

Corn is not a bad treat as long as it it regulated and not their main food source. True, all it really does is make them fat but these are not pets but just a sight of anjoyment for her. Corn is expensive enough for her right now and its better than what everyone else feeds them - bread.

My girls I got from you last year are laying up a storm...tell Grandma that

Also three, count 'em three of the eight females are broody

It is hilarious to watch them "fight" over who is going to sit on the eggs. Plus one broody silkie and guess what the silkie wins every time. I won't even mess with Mary.
