Hi

I am thinking about breeding wyandottes. I know I am either going to get Silver Laced Wyandottes or Partridge Wyandottes. I want a breed that is a good dual purpose breed, and I saw that the SLW was a good dual purpose breed. I heard that SLWs were the best variety of wyandotte b/c they were the first type of wyandotte ever made. But I really like how the Partridge Wyandottes look. So here are my ?s
Is it true that SLWs are the best of the wyandotte varieties?
Are Partridge Wyandottes pretty much the same as SLWs, just a different color?
Do Partridge Wyandottes lay pretty good?
Are Partridge Wyandottes hardy?
Are the chicks easy to raise, hatch, icubate, ect.?
Do Partridge Wyandottes ever go broody?
Thanks for any help

I do not have any Wyandottes (well not yet anyway) but I have had different varieties in one breed. I have not found the color variety to matter in a breeds general characteristics. I love the Partridge and the Silver Laced variety of Wyandotte so I would say to choose the one you like the best.

for a dual purpose breed they lay fine. They can go broody, I'd go with the partridge myself, soo many people have the laced varieties, break out of the pack! Wyandotte chicks in general are hardy.

Agreed, I was planning on getting them and actually ordered some eggs from Duane Urch but they didnt hatch, but now I have found a good source for Partridge Brahmas who are even more rare so I'm gonna go with LF Partridge Brahmas and get Bantam Wyandottes in Partridge and every other imaginable color.

The Partridge LF are much more rare than the Silver Laced. The Foleys are raising them as are several other breeders here on BYC. Duane Urch sells baby chicks and eggs for very reasonable prices as well. Not all varieties are the same. They all have their own nuances and good and bad points.
Partridge Wyandotte bantams are fairly common and look and lay very well.
It is hard to choose sometimes.
