I have something spreading through my flock.

My chickens are getting an infected and they are getting bumps around there eyes. I have not introduced any outside birds to my yard but had an overcrowded brooder for a little while. I think that may have been where it started. Now it is jumping to new pens. I need to stop it please help. I have been treating the eyes with and antibiotic ointment with a bit of success but I think the eye is just a side effect. It is the bumps that are concerning me. They look like moles that are pretty much the same color as were it is growing out of. These are mainly young birds with pea combs with little or no wattles. I have never had anything like this but I need to get rid of it. Thanks for all your time Brad.

well sounds like fowl pox
and the birds need some Vetrx

Also try and put iodine on the sores as it will dry it up


also you could put Vetrex on the head of all the chickens sick and under the wings and 1/2 tsp down the throat
and 1 tsp per gallon of water
this is a herbal medication that does help with the repiratory disease

now the
natural probiotic recipe is is:
3 tbsp of dry crumbles
4 tbsp of milk, sweet, sour, or buttermilk or a mixture of all or some
1 tbsp of yoguart of non flavored yoguart ( no artificial sweetmer)
mix good
AFTER PUTTING VIT'S IN
PUT 1 TBSP OF APPLE SAUCE FOR THE WET MASH PROBIOTIC

NOW THE IMPORTANT INGRIEDIENT FOR EACH CHICKen FED
and add 1- 1000 mg of Vit E by cutting the end off the vit E capsule for each chicken fed this wet mash
putting it in the wet mash

FOR each chicken your treating
so for each chickEN use 2 tBsp of mixture and 1-1000 mg of Vit E

and feed each chicken
2 tBsp full of the wet mash probiotic and what they will clean up in 20-30 minutes
then clean wet feeders and restock dry crumbles

do this twice a day for a week
then quit the Vit E make just the wet mash probiotic
then once a week for life

All the while after mdicating the birds use
do not use ACV with medication

2 tbsp of apple cider vinegar per gallon of the chicken water so their gut flora wil be regulated
they should have this at least 3-5 days a week
then three days aweek after they are over coccidiosis
the vit's are neccessary to clean up the damaged gut problem
take all the electrolytes out of the water

Thanks all. So Fowl Pox will it go away on its own or is it in the bumps, and if they dry up its gone? Is it transmitted by contact or air? I have disinfected some stuff but I guess I will do more. Will the vac. help keep the others from getting it? Where did it come from? I have no idea how to deal with it. Thanks Brad

Hi Brad,

Fowl pox, wet and dry are spread by mosquitos. You aren't doing anything wrong so please don't beat your self up. Dry pox is when the lesions are on the wattles, comb skin etc. Wet pox is when it is in their nose or throat. Wet pox is the worse of the 2. While they are fighting this up their nutrition. Include chopped greens maybe some scrambled egg for extra protein and maybe some fruits. Not too many treats though. You're taking very good care of them and I'm sending good thoughts your way.

I am having the same problem with a few of my young turkeys, Like they said, treat the sores with Iodine, I did and they don't seem to be getting any worse. I have also ordered a fowl pox vaccine for the rest of the birds. From what I have researched, if given the vaccine after six wks, it can give lifelong protection and recovered birds do not remain carriers. It is mostly transmitted by mosquitoes, but can also be by contact. And it is said to reduce production in laying flocks.

I suggest getting the vaccine from Strombergs Gamebirds and Chicks, it is $12.00 including shipping

Thanks Rareroo I looked on that sit and the vac was 14.00 for a 1000. On the Smith sit they where 7.00 for 1000. But thanks for the info And thanks everyone else for the kind words and info. Brad
