I have super chickens! They survived a mini cyclone and recently an arctic blast in Oklahoma

For those who have watched my previous YouTube video, you may be wondering what happened to my ladies after the mini cyclone and that bloody event in the coop where a cuckoo maran hurt its claw.

For those who don't know, I'm a new chicken mama, got my chickens at about a month old in October 2020 and still learning how to feed and care for my flock. So far I may be doing it right since they are thriving, survived two natural events and are continuing to lay eggs since they started in January.

Here's a link in YouTube showing how they survived the arctic blast.

Let me know how I can do it better. I know we need to build a better coop that will not be blown away by a gust of wind, nor will get wet from the rain, plus a chicken run so they can run around, forage from a bigger place and at the same time, remain safe from predators. I do have a question-- I noticed that they don't like laying mash as it is, it doesn't look appetizing- what else can I get them as feed when spring starts because cracked corn with DDG has a very high protein content and they won't be needing it when it starts to warm up.

Thank you for your comments!

Good job. I'm in texas and we got hit hard. I have 11 older laying birds and 4 babies who were still needing heat. We lost power so I brought them inside, we lit our gas stove, and gave warm water bottles every few hours. Didnt lose 1 bird.

How are you making their mash? I feed my girls fermented feed and they gobble it right up. Is yours too liquidy? The best consistency for us is a thick oatmeal.

Glad your birds are okay. I give them a thick oatmeal consistency feed, haven't done any fermented feed yet and am wondering what to buy. When it was freezing here and I ran out of corn w DDG, I gave them just laying mash dry and they didn't really like it.
Hope you have power by now and all is good.

I've never fed corn with DDG so I'm not sure what it is but my guess is they just dont like the change. Chickens hate change and fight it for a bit. And yes, we have power. We were without for 3 days but made it through. -11 without power was not a fun time.

Corn with DDG is what we add to cattle feed because of high protein content. But it has to be replaced when summer comes with something not so rich and I'm trying to find out what to get my chickens that won't be too costly. My hands were freezing even in the 50s so I know it is very unpleasant to be in the cold without heat source. So glad you got it back. =)
