We found out today that we aren't allowed to have chickens. When I looked it said, all animals have to be in pens (ours are). But apparently we're violating some 1972 statue. I'm so angry and heartbroken. They're my sweet girls! Hoping to find a wonderful home for them with some friends from work, also amazing chicken ladies! So sad right now.

I'm really sorry Jenny. That feels so unfair.

I also had a blip with my town. I called and spoke to someone before we ordered chickens and got the okay. Called again to clarify something in the bylaws, and found out there's nowhere on my property to legally build a real pen. We still got the chickens, but their coop and run absolutely stink with having to conform to town rules. The chickens have behavioral issues to show for it.

I hope someday you're able to find a home where you can have chickens. It's clear how much you love them. ❤️

Thank you. Yeah, we thought we did our due diligence, but there are always those rules from 10,000 years ago no one knows about. Very frustrating. I'm sorry you're having to deal with stupid rules too. We are already talking about moving and my husband promised we can get chickens again.

Wishing you guys all the best! I will say that if you look in unincorporated areas, they generally have no livestock regulations. We live in unincorporated and have zero livestock regulations while also being 5 minutes out from the city.
