Lucy (right) and Ethyl (left). I'm convinced Lucy is Lucifer .... a Roo, and an ugly on at that ...

He looks like he has a disease ... he's always been a bit behind in the feather department

Is this normal. Any idea how long till he will start crowing and be Winner, Winner, Chicken Dinner?

I'm guessing about three weeks of age. I call that the vulture stage, especially if they are black. Chicks that age, perching and looking all raggedy, yep, vulture stage. Another couple of weeks and they should be pretty slick-looking.

There is no telling wen he will crow. Some people have reported chicks crowing by 1 week, some go several months before they try. Many people on this forum post like crowing starts at a certain age. In my experience there is no set age for them to start crowing.

Unfortunately I agree with you. Looking at the heavy legs, comb, and especially wattles, that is a rooster.

My little rooster crowed for the first time today. It was a tiny little awkward crow... Hahaha. He's only 9 weeks old. By the way, I love that awkward vulture stage! It's so funny.
