i hope i don't come home to disaster

i'm leaving in a few minutes & won't be back until well after dark. my birds will have to put themselves to bed. their coop is just too darn hot to lock them up now. they would all die of the heat. i just hope nothing gets in there before i get home. their run is open topped. there is just no way to top it & hubby just wouldn't go for it.
i'm very anxious to get an automatic door for just such occasions as this evening. saving my $ up to get it.

We got an auto door this year and LOVE it. I think it is soooo spooky to go out there by myself after dark and so I installed it myself. It works great and saves me work every single day!!

I highly recommend one as it greatly increases one's quality of life when having chickens.

We also have used electrified netting and not worried; I think it's a good deterrent. I don't think anything will climb over a hot fence, but I could be wrong (anyone?). That said, I better go chase my babies in now!

The owls come out at dusk and swoop down from my experience. But you might not have owls where you are.

i have electric fence around the perimeter. that certainly wouldn't stop an owl would it? i just got home & all is well. i don't like going out there in the dark either. i keep expecting to have a snake encounter. not looking forward to that. that automatic door is high on my list.

I'm glad everything was fine, and I would hope that snakes sleep at night???
