i-I have 2 pekin ducks(

Hi- I have 2 pet pekin ducks 6 1/2 yo female and ? aged drake. the female has been nesting CONSTANTLY(except when I retrieve her at night)for several months. she is not laying eggs in the nest and I find one of her eggs occassionally in the yard(appx 1x a month-not chicken-theirs are brown) so I don't think shes eggbound. the drake wanders around by himself all day and swims in the pool. my POINT being-I would like to get another female pekin(because he seems lonely? weird duck owner?) and the rescues won't adopt to me because I allow free range during day so where can I cheaply purchase 1 or 2 adult pekin(females) in Ohio? any suggestions?

Check your local craigslist. You may also want to call local feed stores and ask if you can post a "Duck Wanted" flyer.

It just occurred to me(yes-apparently I am replying to myself) since my chickens are not broody I should put some of their eggs under the duck(assuming the obnoxious roo has mated) and posswibly have her hatch them. would she "mama" them? I believe Pekins are less likely to be good moms?

While they are less likely to hatch out eggs, if they are broody, it is worth a shot. A few people have had khaki campbells and runner ducks also hatch out a brood. These are also breeds not known for their brooding abilities.

I have had this Pekin ,J LO, for her 6 1/2 yrs. of life and around may she started hanging out in some very tall thorny weeds and she goes in there as soon as I let her loose in a.m.(after a dunk in pool) and will not come out until I remove her at 10 pm or so. so shes been broody for a couple of months and while I am concerned(like I said shes occassionally pops an egg out by the nest) she appears bright and plump enuf. My luck I would put the eggs in and she'll be horrified or decide after another week shes bored with nesting. I did get on craigslist(french to me) and put an add on so will probably get responses for everything but a Pekin.
