(1) Are you new to chickens / when did you first get chickens?
I had chickens in 4-H as a kid. I've had them several times since.
(2) How many chickens do you have right now?
I currently have 5 chickens.
(3) What breeds do you have?
I have a leghorn, a red comet, two tetra tints, and one red star (I think). No, she's a cinnamon queen
(4) What are your favorite aspects of raising backyard chickens?
I love their personalities and the sounds they make. Rosalind Franklin, a red comet, is very clever and is always sorting out different ways of doing things. She and Lady Clucksworth the Duchess of Chickenhamshire, the red star, are very social and seek me out for chats, treats, and parallel gardening. Blanca Chicken (leghorn) and Blossom and Bubbles (tetra tints) love to scratch and do their own thing.
(5) What are some of your other hobbies?
I write, sew, and cook. I like to make jam and bake rolls from scratch. Sometimes I make pies. I paint and draw in the evenings.
(6) Tell us about your family, your other pets, your occupation, or anything else you'd like to share.
I have been married for 29 years, 30 in Jan. 2024. I have two grown sons. On works in data processing and one is a hydro engineer. We have three dogs and one cat and then 4 more feral cats that we got fixed and take care of. I also made a pond where some fish live.
