Crowing
I had an order for late July to get a White Sultan, a Silver Spangled Hamburg, and a Dominique to add to my flock. But the more I looked into those breeds, the more I became convinced that they wouldn't be a great fit for my backyard flock. The White Sultan would be susceptible to bullying from my large breed chickens, the Hamburg would be a flighty misfit, and a Dominique would have been fine, but I have a ton of patterned breeds in my flock already.
But I've really been enjoying the personality of my six week-old silver laced Orpington, Guin, in comparison to her flockmates. She's by far my favorite in the group. She's very sweet and docile and easy to catch, which - after chasing my skittish golden laced Polish around the brooder for the twentieth time - I've decided I really appreciate in a chicken.
So to replace the Sultan, the Hamburg, and the Dominique, I got a trio of Orpingtons (blue, buff, and lavender) coming in late May instead.
Half my flock is gonna be Orps.
