I just don't get it

I care a lot about my animals, but they are not pampered pets. Just because someone does not provide their birds water and food 24/7 does not mean they don't care.

Psssst! look where I am then look where you are...ALOT hotter here..yes these were summer swaps...now overstuffing cages I saw 6 adult Pekin ducks and 2 Rouen ducks in a 2'L x 2'W x 1'H cage maybe smaller in sun no water. Oh btw how much do we drink while sitting at swaps. If this has to be explained you probably would not comprehend the point.

Hmmmm let me think. Oh wait no thought needed, maybe that's because I can't comprehend, but I don't drink while sitting at swaps. If I was going to be at a swap all day and if my birds didn't have access to water immediantly before leaving for the swap or arriving home, then yes I would take water for them.

I try hard not overpopulate my sale cages because otherwise the birds can't be seen properly and won't sell well. Do I occasionally pack them a little tighter then I would like? Yes, because I don't always have enough room in my vehicle to take along another cage.

some people just don't care about their animals, be it a dog, cat, or even our chickens! Makes me so mad!!!

I care very much for my birds. They have exceeded being just a hobby to me, but I agree with ChickieBooBoo they are not pets. For that matter if I took my dog with me to the swap he would not have a water dish either.

Yes, I realized we live in different parts of the country and I know weather conditions are different, but I think it's rather rude of you to accuse all others of doing something wrong, of not caring, because you failed to address that point.

I have not seen where anyone said "all people" do not care. I am sure in cooler areas the birds can go without water for a few hours, here it is deadly. If you are not neglecting your birds then you have no reason to be defensive as the OP was not grouping you in with them.

Just because I live in Canada, doesn't mean I live in an igloo and its -30 all year round

Actually, where I live it can get quite hot in the summer. Maybe not as hot as where you are, but hot all the same.

My comment was on the water and feed issue, not on over stuffing the cages. I don't agree with that anymore then you do and I don't appreciate you assuming I'm in favor of that kind of behavior.

Now, back to my origional point. How much a person drinks depends on the person, I personally drink very little at chicken swaps. Mostly because I'm too busy looking at all the other birds for sale and chatting with like-minded people. My birds are housed in the shade in cages where they are not squished together and have room to breath. I've never provided water, never lost one and the cages stays clean and dry.

Depending on how big the auction was, I doubt his poor condition would have been caused by having no water while in a sale box. Since the boxes are tipped around a bit at an auction, theres no way I would be able to keep the water from spilling and making a mess of the bird I am trying to sell. His poor condition was probably from wherever he came from before the auction.

There is a difference between how crowded I might keep birds in a transport cage than a cage or pen that they live in. For the four to six hours they may be in a cage going to, during, and coming home from a swap I'll crowd them more closely than I would if they were going to be in a cage all day or more. The airlines don't seem to mind crowding us into their planes too much for flights of still longer duration.

Of course one can crowd them still further but then you can find examples of anything you want if you look enough for them.

Weather and temperature has a lot to say about the need for water in a transport cage. You say you're in "gator territory" so I presume you're here in the deep south somewhere. For much of the year down here I would not dream of taking birds to a swap without giving them access to water, at least once we get to the swap anyway. I sure drink my share of fluids when I'm at a swap in the hot weather and I do not care to stress my birds that day. Most of the folks (not all, but most) I see at the swaps give their birds water as well if the weather if hot. Further north in the cooler climes things can be different just as it can here when the weather is cool.

Come down off your high horse. It's much easier to speak with people face to face when you're not looking down on them.

oh really I guess you must be a different
Mr. Hagan that goes to the same swaps as me and btw you were beside me at the swap that I originally referred to. Turkey man. YOU SIR ARE AN EXPERT ON HIGH HORSES! Others in the group may tollerate your arrogance but not me! I wonder how those turkeys did after you tied their legs together with "caution" tape and put them in the back of that SUV. You claim your birds have water, well I'll have to check that myself for now on.

The only arrogant person here is yourself, when you can grow up and realize that maybe someone will take your complaint seriously.
