I just experienced the worse situation

Today is a good day, they are both eating and drinking. There are no breathing problems. They are peeping, acting like my others, yet separate. These Polish came from a bad place. It is reasonable that they felt stressed or sick. Nobody can diagnose my chickens via a forum.

If you buy a chicken, you have no idea of its past! I know and am being dammed for it. I have 12 chickens now, all are from different places and have aquired them in aprox 5 months.

Im a new chicken mom and I love them so much! I just wish that I am not being judged. I take such good care of them and I have spent alot of time with them. They are tame and loving.

You are definitely an angel to feel compassion for these innocent birds yet temper that instinct to rush to the rescue with the very real threat their conditions present to you and your gals. I have a lot to learn from you and all who have posted their notes of caution and advice. What a great resource for us all. And Dawg continues to rock...

I just got my first 2 Polish. I love them but one as coccidiosis and is very lethargic. I am hoping for the best. How are yours today?

Because of biosecurity and some of the avian diseases going around now, the only way I will grow my flock at this point is through hatching my own eggs Thankfully I have the ability to do this. If I want to try a new breed (s)--and both my husband and I did this year--is get day olds incubator hatched from a nearby hatchery.
Anything else would mean major quarantine. I commend you for what you did. Your heart was in the right place, but many of us would be afraid to do it because of risks to our own flocks

I feel the need to say Im sorry for getting so upset. I really didnt understand that you were just laying it out for what the reality is. I felt you were being crude. I am new to chickens and the Polish breed has broken my heart so badly. My first Polish pullet died all of a sudden and so did another from the same breeder but were never sick. I have since read that some Polish blood lines are just bad and the birds have sudden deaths. Then I bought another at the feed store, my dogs ate it, along with eating my three sexlinks. Still dont know what to do with the dogs, they are living in a room by themselves because I keep my two Silkies in an indoor coop. But thats a whole other subject. After losing three Polish pullets, I bought those two full grown Polish. I knew they were sick because of the conditions but where I live there arent any I can find and I was desperate. I did not know sick chickens dont get better. My quarentine was successful from the other chickens. They never came anywhere near the others and I changed my cloth and washed up with soap after touching them. I had seperate everything for them due to your warning. I had my husband kill them and get rid of the bodies along with all their stuff. So now I have lost five of the only chicken breed Im so in love with. I did report the lady I bought them from to animal control. My other chickens are so beautiful and healthy. I am absolutely heart broken. But I want to thank you so much for telling me how it is straight up and not sugar coating it. You saved a flock. Again I am sorry for being so upset. I do know that now that my dogs ate my chickens that I can never let them near my chickens because they will continue to eat them. I am going to probly put them up for adoption, I have no choice.

It's good you wanted to save them, but I think under the conditions they were being kept, the risk was too great. It's good you reported to animal control.
