A woman from Kansas, who gardens at our community garden told me about this group, to my delight. I have taken sick/injured hens to my local 'bird' vet, but she's not really a chicken doctor. It's good to have other chicken lovers to run things by. When I had guineas, I did treat wounds from roaming dogs, and my mother's nurse at the hospital gave me a bunch of steri-strips to stitch them up with tape.
I bought chicks the Friday before Easter, and they are growing by leaps and bounds. The farm store where I purchased them said they were 95% female. The zoning officer said I can't have roosters, so how do I tell sooner rather than later if any of them are male?
