I just got started with my chickens late April. I can't believe how smart they are. They have learned their names and come when called. They're sweet

Hello, Barbara, and welcome to BYC! :frow Glad you joined.
You might want to consider upgrading that chicken wire to hardware cloth. Chicken wire is not predator proof. Just about anything can tear through it.

Hello there and welcome to BYC! :frow

Love your photos! :love Yes chickens are incredibly smart, sensitive and affectionate if we just take the time to observe and interact with them. Glad you are enjoying your flock and welcome to ours!

Thank you!
And if you are going to do that, you might also consider installing a predator apron at the same time. It will keep digging predators out. Spread the 1/2" hardware cloth out about 2' and pin the outer edges down with landscape pins. You can just cover the cloth with soil and seed it and you can mow right over it and barely see the cloth.
Use either 3/4" hammer in poultry staples to attach the cloth or screws with fender washers.
Place the cloth on the outside of the run.
