I just need to vent :(

I'm so sorry and don't be hurting yourself! Like you said, you'll be an RN soon and can easily get another job!

I had an interesting and scary experience when I had my second knee replaced last November. For the first knee the hospital staff was great and gave wonderful care.

For the second knee, a year later, the night nurses were scary as all get out! And MEAN! The day staff was lovable, I can't say enough nice things about them.

The nurse on the first night after surgery would only give me 1/2 dose pain meds until I spiked a 103F fever. It was crazy. I had been on enough pain meds during the day and she came on shift and cut the dose in half. Near the end of her shift I started feeling really sick and she finally gave me full dose right before her shift changed. It occurred to me later that she probably put full dose in the chart and kept the half she didn't give me for herself, or something. It was AWFUL.

I thought another nurse was going to strike me one night when she came in to check on me after a shift change. I mean she scared the heck out of me and was deliberately trying to intimidate. I had never met her a certainly gave her no reason to be like that. I'm a real low maintenance patient. But I would have cut off my hand before a pressed a call button for her. Of course, that was probably the idea. I waited for the aid to come take vitals before asking for the bedpan or anything.

I was horrified. I reported the night nurses to the hospital after I left. I also gave great praise to the day nurses.

Aww! Roo mom... i hear ya, big time!
I used to be a CNA too in a nursing home for many years. I know what you are saying about some nurses... ooooh, i know.

I understand completely how you feel.

I worked as a CNA at the local hospital here. I was hired to work pediatrics and maternity (I LOVED both floors) but staffing was short on the other floors, so I was ALWAYS showing up for work just to be sent to another floor. I ended up quitting because I couldn't take it anymore. If I wanted to work in the ICU I would have filled out an application to work there. When I was hired I was never told I would have to work any other floor, it was just out of the blue "Oh you are work on ... Floor tonight. Bye."

I have also worked as a CNA in a couple nursing homes, and let me tell you, That is where I ran into the most LAZIEST nurses. All they wanted to do was sit around an talk. Seriously. There was 4 CNAs to work a 40 resident unit, (I worked 2nd shift) and we had to feed, get them ready for bed, do bathes (plus the bathes from the first shift, since they didn't do them), answer call bells and clean the entire unit. I didn't mind that part, I loved the residents and I love caring for people. The part that ticked me off is while all 4 of us are running around trying to do everything, if a resident walks up to a nurse and says, "can you help me to the bathroom?" she would hunt down a CNA, make us stop what we were doing to take them. The nurse's station was right across the hall from the bathroom. I never understood WHY they couldn't just help the poor resident (considering 90% of the time they wet themselves while the nurse was looking for one of us). I know the nurses have charting and phone calls, but it was the ones that were sitting and talking on their cell phones, and would not take 3 minutes to help that ticked me off.
