This world is not my home.
I think I've been addicted to this site long enough now to be able to find answers to questions and I hope everything goes well.

I ordered from My Pet Chicken....any input on what to expect from them? More to the point, has anyone had any GOOD experiences with this hatchery?

I ordered Dominiques, Buff Orpingtons, White Rocks, New Hampshires, Black Star, Partridge Rocks (with one rooster). I really liked what I have read on the Part. Rocks and thought I would like to have the bloodline bred over my other hens. Anyone raise PR? Tell me anything about them, as I have never had them?

Can't wait! Can't wait! Can't wait!!!!

I have had great experiences with My Pet Chicken. I've purchased food, coop materials, and chicks through their web site and been very happy with the service!

MPC actually coordinate with other companies -- my chicks came from the Meyer Hatchery (and are pretty (well, I think so!) and very healthy! The food I ordered came from a supply place in Alabama, and the coop materials came from the manufacturer. All products arrived quickly, in great shape, and I see this as a sign that MPC knows how to select good companies to work with!

Congrats again on your soon-to-arrive peeps!!! How neat!!!!

Now you will see how truly addicting they are...I was in denial at first, but now I am beginning to understand that owning chickens is like having potato chips, or dogs, or horses, etc...you can NEVER have just one!

Another one bites dust...hey hey...another one bites the dust.

This whole chick disease thing spreads like wild fire. Congrats and welcome to the club of chick addiction. It is all over for you now...start planning your next chick order.

Thanks everyone! Actually already own 6 hens, 1 rooster and 9 half grown biddies. I have just never ordered or raised day old chicks before....always purchased adult birds. When I was growing up we had chicks but that was so long ago that I have forgotten a lot about the process. So...the chick thing will be sort of new to me and very new to my boys! They will fall in love with chicks...who couldn't?

The chickens I have now were all hand-me-downs from a sister who is addicted to her incubator, but I don't like some of the breeds she has and then she just mixed them up and came out with who knows what? I really wanted to start out with breeds that I like, heavy multipurpose breeds for eggs and meat.

Food is going sky high now and I think everyone should be considering a garden and raising their own food. I hope to get bees next year and a fellow from church has about 10-12,35# tins of red turkey wheat that he is going to give me, as we make our own bread. I'm sick and tired of our economy, our unhealthy food supply, and being a slave to the gas pumps. Anybody else out there tired of making just enough to give it to someone else?

How exciting for you! My first order of little chicks came on April 3 from My Pet Chicken. I am a first time chicken owner! Actually, I'm finishing up my coop this weekend and getting ready to put the little ones out. I'm just fascinated with them! I bought them for pets and eggs. Even when they get too old to lay, I'll still keep them around! I just love watching chickens. It can be very calming.

My experience with My Pet Chicken was pretty good. However, during the busy time of year (like now) they can be difficult to get ahold of via phone if you're trying to reach customer service and if you send an e-mail, it might be a day or two before you get a response. Getting the chicks got delayed a bit from the original ship date as I guess they had the same difficulties as some other hatcheries this year---longer cold spell meant fewer eggs and thus, fewer chicks.

I ordered about 8 chicks total from them--a few standard size chicks and some banties in my first order. I actually have another order in with them for a few more standard sized birds to even out the flock a little bit. My first order was one of everything almost! LOL! I got one black frizzle, an australope, a silver laced wyandotte, a buff brahama bantam and a few more. Nothing the same! I was like a kid in a candy store----I'll take one of those and one of those and one of those.................LOLOL!!!

One of the best things about My Pet Chicken is that they are the only place in the United States that sexes their banties. So you may pay a little more and have to wait a little longer, but you'll know you aren't getting any roosters. Cool!

I hope you really enjoy your little ones! I know I am!!!

MPC's website is also really good! They give you ALOT of information on the different breeds and that helped me decide which ones to order. They said they intend to add some new breeds for next year......I see more chicks coming! LOL!
