UGH! THEY WERE SO CUTE!!!

Bobwhite babies are adorable. Agway got a shipment in of more chicks and finally got quail....not that I'd be interested in buying them at $2.50 a piece (with a minimum purchase of 6). I'd rather just hatch out my own and have that fun too.....

Although man, they were cute.

LOL..LOL. You made that sound so funny...."saw my first quail in person"...LOL How cute. They are adorable aren't they? Makes your heart melt. And yes, half the fun is in the hatching. I love hatch time. Quail just get in your blood, once you start with them you want more. They are so much different than chickens too. And I think the babies are cuter than chicken babies. Hope you get to hatching soon!

Oh, and they do want a lot of money for quail don't they? Don't fall for for those highway robbery prices!

if you think about it you probably buy eggs at 1.00 a piece and then have to incubate them for 21-23 days (which uses electricity) and if your not experienced you will probably get a 75 % hatch (maybe even lower if they are shipped eggs) and then have the risk of losing some so if you ask me 2.50 a piece isnt bad at all.

Coturnix or bobs? $2.50 is good considering they either had to buy them from a breeder at $1 a piece or had to get them shipped in from a hatchery...

Happy to hear how interested you are. Refreshing. It is kinda exciting for the first time. However here in the southwest, quail are a dime a dozen. I have seen quail all of my life running about. Just saw a bunch (maybe 30) couple days ago running down the crop line. Really cool just to watch em. Love my own though as well. NUM NUM!

Went back to the store today to pick up rabbit & chicken feed....

All but 4 of the quail were gone!!

YES! whack them chickens already and get ya some Quail eggs to hatch... and go BIG.

btw, how is the Garden State? Hot? I miss the Catskill, NY summers...

I can't remember the last time it was hot like this. It isn't just HOT.... it's humid and 98 degrees! Today was slightly better - but man, it's bad. The chickens are eating less because of this and I think I'm going to have to wait a little longer to process them. I don't think I'll mind - because it's too dang hot to do it! We're waking up and it's already 85 degrees out. I have a feeling that if these were Cornish X's, they wouldn't have made it.

But yah - I really want some quail! I'd want to make a really cute quail coop that I paint a gray color with white frilly looking wood trim.
