I killed my chicks

I was moving the dog house that is in the big run my chicks are in during the day. I hit my head while I was dragging it and dropped it. I hurt one and I killed 2. One was Hootie, my avatar. She was hatched on February 4th.

I feel so horrible. I know it was an accident, but I had to sit here crying for a while before I even came in to say anything. I was just trying to get Hootie away from my foot so I wouldn't hurt her and didn't watch where I was going and ran into a 2x4. The other 2 were across the pen with the others. I didn't even see then run up, but when I realized I was losing my grip, I yelled and Hootie and one of my Lav AMs ran under the dog house as it was hitting the ground.

The other birds just stare at me when I walk out the door now.

I'm so sorry...accidents happen....it's not like you wanted to hurt them...which I'm sure you know, just trying to offer you some comfort...
This is a great place to be though....you won't come across the "it's just a chicken" attitude here.

I'm so mad at myself for this. One of my SPPR hens keeps glaring at me and I promised her I wouldn't go near her today.

I have to go back out and collect the late in the day eggs and I can barely look at the pen with the babies.

I knew the AM was gone right away. I thought Hootie was just stunned and was holding her and then she just died. I have the other in a box here by my desk, but she/he doesn't look good.

Oh how terrible.

I done my fair share of mistakes with my chicks.

But accidents happen. Your chicks didn't suffer, nor did they think you hated them.

I also believe animals go to heaven. Compared to heaven, I'm sure earth seems like

torture.

Oh I'm so sorry. I droped a watered on one of my first silkie chicks and killed her. It was so sad.
