It's always hard decision when you love an animal, but don't want to see it suffer. You most likely did the right thing. But are you a minor? If so, it may have been best to ask your mother before slaughtering the chicken.

You're not a monster though, unless you tortured it before killing it or something (which I'm sure you didn't). It's a difficult thing to do, but ultimately in the case of a suffering animal, you are doing it because you aren't a monster. You just don't want to see an animal suffer.

But I keep feeling guilty, like I could take him to the vet instead. It’s not like he’s the burst bird I’ve ever butchered, I don’t know what’s wrong with me.
