Yes and if you get attached and think your going to keep them as a pet it's heartbreaking. They are a 4 way hybrid terminal cross and aren't meant to live longer.
I did keep a pullet alive by starving and exercise. When snow came she got too big and died at almost a year.
 
I always had luck with the broomstick method. Quick, and it's cervical spine dislocation, so they're not supposed to feel it also brain death seemed to set in within 30 seconds by the looks of it from eye dilation/ movement .
I also strongly prefer the broomstick method over decapitation. It's an instant pop, then I pin the body down over the head until all bodily reflexes cease
