maybe a gene from one of the "california grays" that they use to make the california whites. Just an idea - I read about them on feathersite.com I think . The grays were barred to a degree.

she does have a white lob which usually means white eggs.

Here's the link to the article about the California whites or grays - Maybe parents of the hen are the" cALIFORNIA WHITES " From the pics the Cw's look just like leghorns . But one parent http://www.feathersite.com/Poultry/CGA/CalGray/BRKCalGray.html#CW

the Cw's is the California Grays ( which are a barred chicken) . So maybe this would explain her coloring. Just a guess but I had just read that article last night.

The California Gray got its barring from the Barred Plymouth Rocks.
California Gray is a Barred Plymouth Rocks and White Leghorns.

Leghorns are typically dominant white--looks to me like both mama & daddy had only one copy of I, and daddy had a copy of barring turned OFF by dominant white. The pullet inherited i+ from each parent and barring from daddy. I am also guessing that the parents are both silver since gold would have shown.

OK Henk, Blackdotte & Tim--have at it--how far off is my guess?

All the information is so interesting!!! My neighbor told me he bred and raised the White Leghorn Rooster. I don't know exactly what he means by that. But I did notice when I went to get the Roo, there were a bunch of Dominque Roosters roaming around.. The barred leghorn's full brother is My White Leghorn roo now that I have 40 eggs in the bator with hatchery Red & White leghorns. 7 mores days!! So excited. Have 5 of the barred hen's eggs breed to a Cochin roo!
