I know about B/B/S but what about B/B/Cuckoo?

Hi,

I have tried to figure out the genetics calculator but I just don't get it. I have a Black Silkie roo, 2 Blue Silkie hens and 3 Cuckoo Silkies (2 being a darker cuckoo (one roo and one hen)and one being a lighter cuckoo roo)

These are all unrelated birds. What would I get:

If I breed the black roo to a cuckoo hen?

If I bred a cuckoo roo to a cuckoo hen?

If I bred a cuckoo roo to a blue hen?

Thank you to any who take the time to help!

for black set the calculator to E/E
for cuckoo too but also to B/B for light cuckoo rooster, B/b+ for dark cuckoo rooster, B/- for cuckoo hen
for blue set it to E/E and Bl/bl+

Then press calculate

Thank you very much. I will try.... my eyes are crossing just thinking about all those Bb-b's Practice makes perfect??????

Well I'm not sure if it is the same with silkies as with other chickens or not but.

Cuckoo Rooster - Cuckoo Hen = All Cuckoo
Cuckoo Rooster - Black Hen = All Cuckoo
Black Rooster - Cuckoo Hen = Cuckoo Cockerels and Black Hens

So are you saying I'm wrong? If so, please enlighten us, it would be more helpful than your previous comment.

Hi Germaine! I'm far from an expert, so I copied this from a question I asked earlier:
Barring
Usually a **purebred barred male might be expected to be carrying two barring genes (BB).
So if he is crossed with a non-barred hen then all of his offspring, whichever gender, would inherit *one barring gene from him.

Barred roo (BB) x non-barred hen = 100% barred offspring (male and female)

A barred male that is *(Bb) when mated with a non-barred female will produce 50% barred offspring and 50% non-barred offspring (with no regard to gender).

Barred hen x non-barred roo = barred males, non-barred females (can be sexed at hatch by head spot)
(**like a Barred Rock)

Cuckoo = barred (I'd think Bb).

If you can wrap your head around that, you can figure out what to expect from your matings.

I haven't used the calculator, but I'm sure it's a fine tool.

Thank you Lisa!!!! I think I can actually make sense of that. I know some peoples minds work genetics with no problem but certain things like this just leave me baffled.
