So why did she mount another hen. I have seen her lay a egg but while sitting with the girls last night Shadow mounted another hen. I wonder is it dominance? Some mornings all my hens get going and now I wonder if she is a crowing hen. What does one sound like?

Its a dominance thing, a crowing hen sounds like a choking rooster

All kidding aside it is not uncommon if there is no rooster in the flock for a hen to take on that roll. I had a hen awhile back I swore was a rooster, big waddles and a huge comb and she crowed! I held onto that until the day she laid an egg!
