I feel silly posting these but I can't figure out what kind of chickens I have by looking at other peoples pictures.

The yellow chicken is Gracie and the the grey and white chicken with the bright yellow neck feathers is Eliza. I only just got them and I thought Gracie might be an Orpington. No even a guess what Eliza is yet. The yellow on Eliza's neck is much brighter in person than in the photo and she's taller and more slender than Gracie with more of an upright look compared to Gracie, who is more of a waddler.

These two photos were taken in their old home when I was trying to trick them into getting used to me so I could pick them up and put them in the crate to transport them home. I'll take more (better) pictures tomorrow. I just plain didn't think about taking pictures after the trip home and with all the to-do's that suddenly had to be done right away.

I have no idea how old they are exactly. I only know for certain they are chickens and hens.

Weird. I had to turn the photos upside down on my laptop to get them right side up on here.

I see it now. :) Thank you! Eliza does look like a laced wyandotte now that I know what to search for and look at :) Very much appreciated! :p

She does! she has two back toes on her feet. And she looks just like a favorelle. Thank you so much. I must have looked at ten thousand chicken pictures last night. There are a lot of chickens. And not knowing if Gracie and Eliza are an actual breed or frankenchickens I was stuck on "next" with way too many possibles

I'm feeling pretty lucky today! They are both breeds that are known to be sweet tempered. Or at least, enough of that breed to pass for one :)
I was a little bit worried they might be covert attack chickens once they got adjusted to their new home. But they'll probably always be this nice and pettable :) I'm happy happy happy!

Thank you Thank you!

Gracie looks like a salmon faverells does she have 5 toes?
I have to thank you again for mentioning the five toes. It was the first time I actually took a really close look at Gracies ugly feet. She does have the ugliest feet I've ever seen lol
She also had one of her toenails on her two side toes growing in a complete donut circle. It was imbedded into the underside of her toe :( After I took a good look at her feet I ended up making an appt with the avian vet downtown here. Thursday she had her toenail completely removed and the hole it left in the meaty part of her toe cleaned out and cauterized. She was very lucky you mentioned her toes! Her entire leg was swollen and pink and could have gotten very bad before I realized what was normal and not normal.
The vet also gave me a little lesson on how to clip her nails properly and gave me a set a clippers to trim them 1/8th of inch every Saturday until they're a normal length.
She seems a lot less clumsy since I've had her feet fixed. I was thinking maybe I should have named her Grace-less but now I'm sure her foot was just hurting when she tried to perch or hop about in a hurry. I feel bad for laughing at her now and really glad you pointed me in the right direction to take a closer look at her feet! Thank you so much :)

Some of them still curl under and twist but I can't trim them too fast or I might do more harm than good. Still they look a thousand percent better than they did.

This is the small night kennel I'm working on converting to a chicken house. Its right on the side of my side patio. When the vet asked me about the enviroment they are in now he said having them spend time on this cement patio will eventually help wear down gracies toenails to a natural pattern also.
Liza's feet are fine. They don't even need to be trimmed. I'm guessing Gracie has been lame for a while now and the more lame she became the worse her feet got. I'm so glad she eats her own eggs! In the end it means she wasn't wanted where they weren't even taking care of her in the most basic ways! Weirdly, she lays an egg a day here and they haven't eaten a single one of them.

Egg eating is mostly hens checking if the shells on the egg is strong. If she was on a floor diet and had thin shelled eggs shed break the eggs and get a bad reputation. I bet she is getting more calcium now and the shells are stronger. Good job!

Glad to hear that you found the problem and was able to fix it. hope she keeps doing well for you, she sounds very happy, good job
