We ended up at Tractor Supply’s “chick days” to add 3 girls to our flock to round up to an even 20... my son pointed out a slow moving runt from the RIR brooder and the little one got to come home with us immediately... must’ve been nice for the underdog to get picked first for the team right? It’s not dodgeball but, I do believe she stuck her tongue out as we left the store!
(Do they have a tongue?)
After realizing there was more than meets the eye to our struggling little chicky baby (YouTube chicken lady reference Becky’s homestead) we separated her as to not get her trampled or picked on... breastfeeding didn’t work ~ mostly because I’m not lactating... (kidding of course) tried every natural home remedy I could find on the internet... (ok not everything)
I already use Braggs ACV in the water...
There I was in my scrubs (it was just my shorts) trying to doctor this chick back to good health until 3 a.m. thinking that in the morning she’d be running around the brooder like all the others and I’d be the guy who saves the day...
***REALITY CHECK***
I’m retired so...
Up at 7... coffee... NFL Network... Daughter to cheer...son to football weightlifting then check on the progress of my struggling little chicky and (as a former mortician) I can see the absence of lung expansion activity in addition to rigor mortis and it didn’t take an additional mortuary science degree to figure out the inevitable...she didn’t make it...hmm
My chicken whisperer/ Doctor skills are just not there folks...total fail!!!
I spent tons of time and money building a fortress to keep my girls safe, sound & happy but, couldn’t keep her alive long enough to enjoy it...lesson learned... or was it? I’m a guy so I’ll probably do it again just because I think I can...
The focus should have been on electrolytes, natural remedies, and last resort medicines instead of coons, coyotes & foxes
Bummer
RIP Chickny Houston
