Great pics.
Most hatchery catalogs do not do them justice because their colors look flat in the illustration; there is no way to bring across that black-green luster. I had a Black Australorp that was really beautiful.

As an aside, in my experience I have had more black hens go broody than other colors. Maybe just coincidence, but I have wondered. (the ones I am referring to were crosses, so it was not necessarily a breed thing)

Actually, we started out with 4 black australorps... Then got 2 WC black polish hens, then got a frizzle black EE...

I finally have more colors than black

Although I do agree, my black chickies are very pretty in the sun! Just recently hatched out a black frizzle cochin (he does have some white on his chest right now though, so not quite sure what he'll turn out to be other than frizzled) - Here's a Pic of Tiny

Yes I love love love black birds. I will be getting some austrolorp eggs within the next 2 days. I am so excited about it. I too, am not found of white chickens. I don't know why. Im not just a plain vanilla girl either. I love the pictures of your black chickens they are beautful.

Folks around her like light colored chickens. When I tell them I have black ones, they are surprised and say, "black?!"
