I Lost a Button Last Night :(

What part of the country are you in? Please, if you are under 18, do not share detailed information. However, knowing whether you are in the far south (say Southern Florida) or in a colder climate can help us since you are talking about putting them outside.

Remember, button quail are not suited to cold climates. They need to be protected from cold weather and from drafts. Basically, if it's too cool for you without putting on a jacket then it is too cool for your birds. Actually, I try to keep mine in temperatures where I would be comfortable in a summer shirt. Quail lady has more experience with this, so perhaps can share a bit more with you about what they can tolerate as far as temperature.

Even in places very far South in the US winter temperatures get too cold for button quail outside in the winter. Please keep this in mind for the rest of your button quail.

I live on the Oregon Coast. It gets cold here, but not too terrible. I could walk outside in a t-shirt if I didn't want to get soaked. My aviary has a leak in the roof, so that's why the rain was worrying me. I know that most gamebirds need to be kept completely dry, because they come from dry climates.

Other people have outdoor Buttons around here, so I'm not too worried.

My aviary has a completely enclosed section with an infrared lamp for when it is too cold, a sction that has wooden sides and a section that is completely wire, so they can get the small bit of sun when it shines during the winter. All of it is covered with a tin roof that keeps them dry. It is currently a 5'x5'x7' aviary, but I will be expanding it to 8'x16'.

One of the seals is loose and that's why the roof is leaking.
