Well, 3/4 anyways. I founf its feet, spine and some other peice of bone.

What the... the 6 week old chicks were in their tractor and I didn't notice anyone missing yesterday. But I go to feed them this morning and I cant find one of my morans. A few minutes later a top hat is running for it life cause everyone else wants whatever it is the chick has in its mouth. Then *gasp* I realize its a foot. And another. I take inventory. Missing a moran. Then found the spine and other bone when chicks running around with it.

No blood anywhere. No feathers. Not sure where (or what for that matter) it happened. Im totally confed.

Oh my, how disturbing. I do hope you figure out what happened.
And I didn't realize that chickens would truly eat another chicken. Obviously, I've heard of severe pecking being a problem but true cannibalism? That really happens?
I'm so sorry for your loss.

from reading that, the only thing I can come up with is a possum. And I havent seen so much as a squirrel since I lived here, let alone a possum. IDK Not even sure if the chicks got anything to eat or if they were the predators. I know I saw that bird yesterday. I did my head count and found Retard (thanks to the DH for that) so he was fine then. Baffeled. First loss at all like this round here.

I once caught a possum in a trap set for squirrels in my backyard in in the New Orleans metro area. I never saw one there other than the one I trapped. They travel at night and are very secretive. For sure you also have raccoons.

Good luck.

Well now I think this deserves a transfer to Preditors and Pests. I definatly think a possum got them. I will have them secured tonight and will see how much a trap is at TSC tomorrow. We need one anyways.

I am sorry you lost a chick

I hope you get the possum - keep us posted.

I'm very sorry for your loss. Are there stray cats about? I say this because cats will leave the feet behind.
