I really thought I was pass the stage of losing a chick!!! My lil d'uccle MF started really being lethargic and I tried sugar water and finally got some vitamins but I don't think I got them quick enough. He quit eating and I tried more sugar water but last night he was gasping for breaths and was suffering so we had to give him peace. My dh did it for me cuz there was no way I could have. He was my fave bird....figures huh?? He was born with crooked toes and I never could fix them so I wonder if there was a genetic issue going on? Everyone else is healthy and fine but I am sure sad we had to deal with culling a chick!! I know it can go with raising chickens but I was hoping to be a lucky one and not deal with it. I miss the sweet lil' cuddler!!!

We just lost one of ours recently. She was only 1 week old. It's very frustrating to not know what it was that caused the passing.

Only the good die young, seems if one is going to go it is the favorite. So sorry.

I'm so very sorry for your loss...how fortunate we are to be able to make the choice to give them peace, though.

Crooked toes are often a result of an incubation issue; it's common, and typically doens't cause many problems later on.

Again, I'm verry sorry.

I lost two chicks this year and had to make the same decision for one of them you did. Not an easy task so I feel for you. It is the really sucky part about having these guys
