I am new to the chicken world and my chickens are only 4 month old I had 6 but lost one yesterday I know its normal for some to not make it but I am heartbroken I still have them in a broader box because I was told they couldn't go out until they are 6 months old my girls look like theyre full grown and I'm wondering did she pass because they are too big for the area? None of them have signs of PLUcked out feathers I thought that would mean they didn't have enough room is it too early for me to put them out in their coop? I live in South Carolina so it is very hot what should my next step be? Can I get another chicken to replace the one that has passed? I have had them since they were two days old so introducing a new one now would it be a bad idea please I need all the help I can get thank you

In your climate they could have been moved outside over two months ago. You don't mention a size of the brooder, but my gut says that they are over crowded.

Sorry for your loss. Chicks can go out to the coop once they are fully feathered (around 6-8 weeks old)- in a warm climate, even sooner. In the coop each bird should have 4-5 sq.feet of space, excluding nest boxes & roost and in the outdoor run 10 sq. feet each. In hot weather they need lots of shade and cool, fresh water.
