Hi!
(1) Are you new to chickens / when did you first get chickens?
We bought a home in late 2021 that came with 3 chickens. We lost 2 and bought 5, then lost them all to dogs.
So last year the kids & I raised chicks and HOW FUN it has been!
(2) How many chickens do you have right now? We have 11 hens right now. They roam our front yard and the surrounding area. During the summer we’ll move them down to our pasture but it’s been fun getting close to them.
(3) What breeds do you have?
Scarlet -Buckeye
Onyx and Shadow -Mystic Onyx
Snoop Dog and Nugget Jr -Americanas
Marshmallow -White Leghorn
Winnie the Poo and Antonette -Wynodette
Lilly -Buff Polish
Flame and Bully -Black Sexlink
(4) What are your favorite aspects of raising backyard chickens?
I love when they all run to me and then follow me around the yard!!! They’re SO CUTE!!!!
(5) What are some of your other hobbies?
Gardening, letter writing, roller derby, and cooking/baking.
(6) Tell us about your family, your other pets, your occupation, or anything else you'd like to share.
I have 7 kids, 5 at home, and a husband -who also is an ever-child. We live in a rural area where farming is still normal. We also have goats, dogs, and cats.
(7) Bonus: How did you find BYC, how long have you known about BYC, and what made you finally join our awesome community? Chicken questions never end!
