I love ducks!

I have a very "needy" muscovy drake, Pato. He was rescued from water-logged drowning when he was a few days old, by a rehabber -- about the same time as I rescued my other muscovy, Daffy, as a duckling. They have been together, along with my rescued pekin crested drake, Ping, from the beginning of September when the muscovies were 6 or 7 weeks old. Pato the needy drake was originally quite aloof -- he didn't like petting or handling but he was always round me with the other two telling me all about it when I was in the back yard Then just after Christmas he started attacking me. I suppose he was adult and his hormones kicked in. I started working with him on the aggression -- attacking me or the crested pekin is not allowed. It took about a week but he stopped attacking me [occasional relapse when he tries to bite my feet and needs "reminding" that is not allowed, but nothing like his full frontal attacks. However, as he learnt not to attack, he also started flying onto the side gate. I had to go out to him as my neighbors have small children and I couldn't risk an aggressive duck on the lam in case he attacked a child.

Pato, the drake on the side gate, became the interesting part of this story. On his side of the gate he was 4ft from the ground, but on my side because of two steps down he was 5ft. Standing up there huffing and puffing, he was taller than me, The first time he pulled this trick, I approached him with trepidation in case he attacked me. But he did not. As I got up to him, my arms at the ready to push him back into the yard if he attacked me, he stood still until I was right up to him, and then he snuggled up to me and rested his head on my shoulder. I hugged him for several minutes until he calmed right down and completely stopped huffing and puffing. Then he consented to get back down in the garden. Pato did this 6 days on the run and then stopped it. He is basically back to being a normal somewhat aloof drake with me now, although he and the other two drakes have their tiffs
