Wow! I just got in from work and here are all these replies; thanks! Actually I wrote that post sorta tongue-in-cheek. I long ago came to accept the nature of my SO. In alot of ways I've come to admire his steadfastness, level-headedness, and his frugality. Having myself grown up in a family of disorganized, dysfunctional gypsies, he is like a breath of fresh air. Of all the people I have met in my lifetime he has the least "issues" by far. I just have flare-ups of frustration from time to time. As for his hoarding, as we say in the South, he comes by it honest. Both his parents and his grandparents were frugal, hard-working people that were never in debt a day in their lives. Somehow they managed to buy this 80 acres of land and build not one, but two houses on it and never owe a dime to anyone. They did it by scrimping and saving and building as they went. So while the minimalist in me wants to scream at all the clutter, the logical part of me is still realizing that living debt-free is great! Also he did lose both his mother and brother suddenly in the recent past and I know it must be hard to let go of something someone else might see as inconsequential, but full of memories for you.
As for the mayonaise jars not being good for canning...believe me folks, all the internet posts in the world would not change his feelings on that. If mayo jars were good enough for his mama....you know the rest.
Now on to the chickens, the SO knows and I know that I will be getting exactly the breed I want, from the hatchery I want to use and I will keep them in the coop I want, and last but not least, they will never EVER see the inside of a stew pot, no matter what the SO says.
