…but I’m never getting Polish birds again.

I have got plucked out crests. AGAIN. I have 3 Polish birds (2 pullets, 1 hen), and they are in their own space. Their coop is 9 square feet, and the run is 135 square feet. I’ve got random perches, things to go under, and two plants in there. They are on chick feed with the higher protein.

I have never caught them in the act of plucking but 2 have plucked out bald spots, so naturally I suspect the one with the perfect crest. I’ve started putting blue kote on; too early to say if it’s working.

Should I pinless peeper the alleged aggressor? Or maybe all of them? Should I add more clutter? Idk. What would you do?

I'd seperated the aggressor. Personally I'd keep her out and if it stops, then I'd reintroduce her, and if it started again, relocate her to another pen or someone else's place. But since u are in Oklahoma it might be different from NZ

Good idea, thanks!

PS: Kia ora! My in laws lived in Auckland for 18 months and just moved back. We visited them while they were there. Beautiful country you’ve got.

Meeee tooooo! I have 3 Polish with 4 others. 2 of the Polish have plucked crests. When we separated the 3 of them one of the crests got worse. We've seen at least one of the other chickens pecking the Polish heads. Ugh, I had no idea they'd be such a pain in the ass.

Yeah I’ve been struggling with plucked crests for a very long time. We hatched these chicks for the hen so she could have friends that wouldn’t pluck her, ironically.

The pullet? Funny. Probably hormones, I would have suspected the hen as she is older. But seperate the pullet. Did the hen raisethe pulletsor did you introduce them?
Yeah it’s weird. They were terrified of my hen but now she is plucking out her crest. We integrated the chicks when they were around 5 or 6 weeks, but they have no familial feelings toward each other. The pullets are around 6 or 7 months old now
