i odered 21 babies from ideal poultry, and then i was thinking to have half a day off from work , but i though post office is going to call to pick them up, i decided to wait untill they call me, well they never called me, so at 1 pm i called from work to ideal poultry and i asked if my order was shipped on wednesday and they told yes, i asked when i possibly receive them and she told me maybe saturday morning,so i got to my house, the babies were there and 15 were dead , i was so hot ,ups person left them at the sun, and they were not even close to the main door , so even a dog could killed them, i felt so bad , but i think it was ups falt because they never called me ,

You have to call your post office and make sure they understand that you want to pick them up. I called mine a couple days before mine were supposed to come in.

Edited to say: I would still complain. There is a place you can do that at the usps.com site.

well i though that it is not necessary, beacuse i ordered in 2007 and they called me i went to pick then up as soon as they called me

I don't know. I have only ordered ducks from Metzer and they told me I had to call my post office even though they had the number on the box--just in case, so I did. Better safe than sorry, I guess.

I am sorry to here that..
When I order chicks I tell the hatchery that I want it written on the box that the post office is to call before delivery...

unless you specify to be called, they don't always call. some stations deliver. it will depend what truck they are on.

mine call on the a.m. trucks and have us pick them up before open hours.

during open hours, they call and then bring them to us.

the best way to ensure a good delivery is to let them know a few days ahead of time that you have chicks coming. talk directly to the Postmaster, not a clerk.

with this case, go to your post office and find out what happened. if there were no specific directions though, this is not their fault. if you gave direction to the hatchery and the hatchery did not print Please Call upon Delivery, then the Hatchery is at fault. if you knew you had a chick delivery, then a phone call to the office was in order. waiting was a poor choice as well.

It shouldn't have been necessary, you are right, if the USPS always did its job. And many employees do -- but not everyone, obviously.

Many on here do call or contact them before the chicks' arrival just to try to be sure things are handled as they should be.

I do not believe that postal regs allow leaving live shipments--if no one is there they are supposed to place a notice and return them to the po.
