Ok thought I was doing a great thing..it was a dark and stormy morning..I put in a light..it started to really rain..I ran to the house. I thought..oh no..the rain is really coming down I will run out there and close the coop door cause the rain will soak the wood shavings in there. So I run..and I mean RUN and slide the rope off the hook..door closes and I RUN back in..I have to change clothes cause I'm soaked. The rain passes and sun comes out..I go outside to re-open the door..and there is one of my black australorps "Pony" bawking at me...she was left out in the rain!! She was soaked and she just looked at me and told me off..lol. She hide under the ramp but the rain was just whippin. I apologized but still..I felt bad.. plus I think she just started laying..

well, I don't think you're a bad mom lol. If she'd gone in the coop when it first started raining she wouldn't have gotten locked out.

Don't they look pitiful when their wet!

Well thats true. All the other chickens were in..its her fault. It did rain awhile before I decided I'd better run out there. I hope she still lays today. I think its her.. I need a video camera in there so I can see who's doing what. I have 10 chickens one has been laying for 2 or 3 weeks and now a 2nd one has started..but I dont know who it is! Does anyone else video tape their chickens so they are sure to catch the first egg???

Poor Pony! I've a mixed flock, 16-8 weeks old. One sudden rain storm caught me unaware, but looking out the house window I did not see anyone in the pen. After the brief downpour, I went to check the pen, found 10 older chickens in the coop, but the 5 eight week olds were outside trying to get under the pop door ramp and soaking wet. It's possible the older girls wouldn't let the young ones inside. Being in the mid 90's, I didn't worry too much about them catching a chill. I called the older girls out, put the little ones in to fluff around in some fresh shavings and dry off. It also gave them time to eat in peace in quiet.

I think it's going to happen to all of us at sometime.

Just think of it this way....she got a nice shower....you just forgot to give her the bubbles.
