I may be strange but I love this part of chicken and turkey soup

My dogs would have ripped that carcass to shreds. Then again they are outside dogs that aren't around when I'm preparing food. This year I got lucky. My hubby stripped the turkey for me. The dogs inhaled the goodies they got.

Canning is definitely the way to go. I can all kinds of things. Vension seasoned, browned then canned with mushroom pieces is incredible. Boil up some egg noodles, open a jar of venison, a quick very tasty meal. Or try canning your own soup. Chicken and turkey stock canned is a great way to "use everything", and if you want try cooking you ham bones. Don't clean the bone to much so you have quite a bit of meat left on it. Boil it, remove bone, can; incredible to add to white beans.

Love the pics PC

your dogs must think you are god-like LOL

I made turkey soup last night. I picked the meat off the leg and wing bones (Id picked the main carcass on Turkey Day) and added onions, carrots, celery, and cubed leftover baked potatoes. It was yummy so I ate two bowls full. I cut up the left over dinner rolls into cubes and sprinkled a few on top of the soup.

Your are right PC, it is somewhat therapeutic to debone or pick poultry. Even as a child, I loved doing it. I think it stems from the time I ate some of the neighbors chicken and rice at a church pot luck and got a piece of grissle in my mouth.

I don't think I ever got over it, LOL. I love chopping vegetables too. I'll stand there and chop anything you put in front of me, even onions, I don't care.

I canned 13 quarts of turkey stock and meat yesterday. I did not add carrots or celery, just the stock with enough meat to make soup. Then all I have to do is add my veggies fresh( I like them with a little crunch) and I have soup.

Canning rocks and it is so easy. The hard part is picking the carcass!

Purplechicken-ask for a canner from Santa.

we cooked 7 turkeys at out church for dinner the wed before thanksgiving... Gathered every carcus..and gave it to the chickens.. I just dumped the bag into their pen.. they picked those carcuses clean in one day.

then I just rake up the bones and toss them..

Great responses everyone. I hated picking the chickens and turkeys
too until it was my own birds and I starting sitting down to do it.
It truly is relaxing.

Sometimes, like smom, I'll let the chickens do the final cleaning. They
enjoy it.

Oh, and the laundry hanging there was clean. I like to dry my clothes
on that little hanger thingy instead of wasting electricity running my dryer.

PC you was right. I was making chicken soup and the best part was peeling the chicken. I was so relaxed with the peace and quiet. How do you make turkey soup?
