Hi,
I have 11 adorable little chicks running around my coop. Five of them are Americanas, five are white Silkies, and then I have one Starlight green egger. The Silkies are 4 weeks old and are straight run so I am anticipating some roosters.

I cannot keep roosters in my neighborhood so I am writing in advance to see if anyone in the Massachusetts area may be looking for Silkie roos in the near future? I got them from Tractor Supply as "assorted bantams" but they weren't assorted at all that day, lol! If anyone is interested in Silkie roosters let me know. I'd love to pick up an alternate bantam or two ( not another Silkie). And, any idea when I may be able to tell hens from roosters?

The silkie in the picture is looking like a cockerel because of its early developing comb. If there are already chicks you know are cockerels and you don't want to keep them; I'd recommend listing them on Craigslist and finding local Facebook chicken groups you can list them on. If you can post updates and pictures I might be able to help sex them for you. 😊

I can certainly post updated pictures. And I appreciate any help you can offer in sexing them.

And
I can certainly post updated pictures. And I appreciate any help you can offer in sexing them. And now that you pointed it out, at least 2 of the silkies look to have more developed combs and are bigger in general. I can send better pictures when someone is around to hold them for me. They are terrible at posing 😂

I have more pictures and a new concern. One of the Silkie chicks has a bloody face and talons. I cannot see a worrisome injury and can't tell the cause of the blood- self-inflicted from scratching or pecked by another chick? Idk? My son held each Silkie for me and if folks can offer help sexing them or helping me figure out how that one got injured, I'd really appreciate it.

1 and 4 are definitely boys, 5 and 2 I'm not 100% sure on but posting updates every now and then may help distinguish them better. I think your cockerels got in a fight and injured each other that way or one was more dominant than the other. I would clean up his face and claws and then I'd try to figure out which ones causing trouble and separate it so no more chickens get hurt. If you aren't keeping all your boys I'd try to sell that one as soon as you can. I'm not sure how else he would have injured himself.

Hi, just wanted to thank you again for helping me try to determine who was a rooster and for your advice to jump on Craigslist. I found a new home for 4 of them and kept just one who I am pretty sure is a hen. 😃
