I missed the first egg sighting!!!!

We just got back from a week long vacation and as soon as I got home I went to see my girls and wouldn't you know......2 eggs in the coop! I didn't alert our animal sitter that this may happen so I have no idea when it happened. How long would they stay good? Is there anyway to tell if it's edible or not? I'd really hate to have to throw out my very first egg but I'm worried they may have gone bad.

They are so darn cute; a bit small but very cute! I have one hen (an Isa Brown) squatting, which she didn't do before we left so I suspect it's her. Should I expect an egg every day or what?

They should be fine, and you should get an egg every day or every few depending on the breed.
