They're hard to incubate artificially - you may have a better chance letting mamma duck or a broody hen do the job. I've been doing a lot of research on Calls here on the BYC forums lately - I'm hoping to get a pair later this spring.

Don't expect a lot of babies - I've read that a female call will lay a maximum of something like 30 eggs a year (but that may be way off - just what I read), and of those, you'll probably only be able to hatch somewhere from 30-50% of them if you're lucky.

Any other Call Duck-specific advice I'd be happy to learn as well!

Edited to ask: What color are your new pair?

Would the color patterns be Like Ancona and magpie? or Blue swede? id think there would be too much white on the face for the swede pattern, maybe just bibbed?

I'm still trying to figure out and learn color patters and such, lol

They are gorgeous and I am so jealous!!

Yea well I am new to them too....like 6 hours new too them. lol I just had to have them. They were so flippin adorable. I think I'm gonna like calls. I like little things. My OEGB's are some of my favs too!

The odds of having little ducklings is very good if you let the mother set them.
Mine does a super job of hatching her babies my avatar is of her and one of her ducklings with his head resting on her wing.

They are very loud but it's not a all day thing, they are also so very loving too and to me just great pets to have.
Watching them swim is so much fun too they are like scuba ducks diving and splashing

As far as how many eggs mine laid 16 before she sat last fall and she is laying now and will probably set soon she has laid about 15 eggs so far.

I think you will really enjoy them

Wow, I am so envious! they are such a unusual colour, I'm in Australia and calls are my favourite breed of domestic duck! Trust me you will get hooked on these little beauties very VERY quickly...... they are so cute and little and very ornamental by nature. Mine have access to a huge lake ( size of around 50 football fields ) and they are all free flying! it is so beautiful to watch them soaring over the lake with the pelicans! Then on dusk they all waddle up three flights of stairs to bed..... so clever! Your gonna love them.
