I will be using my brooder with in the next few weeks. I was wondering if it would be ok to spray some bleach in there on the wire and let it sit and then spray water on it to clean it off. It is a Large wire cage that I use for my brooder. It is in the chicken house with lights and all in it. The chickens can not get to it and I used it for my brooder last year...lots and lots and lots of times. However, the last set of chicks were sickly and lots of them died...maybe started with 25 and 15 eventually died...the 80 before that from several hatches turned out healthy and strong.

The bleach will rust your wire if you leave it on there to long. I would actually water it down (maybe 1 part bleach to 3 parts water) and just wash it down with a sponge really good and then rinse it well. Even better, if you can get some Oxine, that's what I would go with. I use Oxine for everything here and there wouldn't be any need to rinse it.

I wash everything with soap and water and then I spray it all down with rubbing alcohol. The alcohol dissapates in the air and doesn't smell too strong.

Awesome guys, Thanks so much. I really appreciate that. I will heat out now to buy a spray bottle for alcohol. what is Oxine?? I have not heard of that. Can it be purchased at a hardware or feed store?
