I NEED A SILKIE 101 please

They are pretty big for a bantam, but are still pretty small. And the matter of white ones being nicer is just personal opinion

Show Qualityy, Pet Quality, Breeder Quality and DisQualified. I do believe there are Silkie Breeders in your area. Look in the Index section and Auctions. If you can pick up you will save money rather then shipping. I have to have birds shipped to me because no breeders around here.

ok great... I recently purchased 6 week old chicks... I got them from a young farmer that breeds them around here but I have no idea what quality they would be...? The best part is I said to him I wanted females and he said he wasn"t sure which sex the 3 i got were and said if they turn out to be roosters then I could bring them back and trade them for some hens. Good deal I think seeing how I only paid $10 for the 3 of them.... I'm a first time owner of silkies....

If they are bantam, less than a foot tall and about 2 pounds. I like the partrige, cuckoo, lavender, paint, and splash. Some of the other new colors are really nice too I just can't remember them all. I used to have a white pullet and they are pretty but dirt and poop stains show a lot so the feet look nasty unless you wash them often and clean out the poop daily. The person who I buy PQ silkies from sell chicks for about $3-$4 and adults for $14-$18. I see SQ silkies for $40 and up.

I have several silkies i personally dont find them dumb at all they are very friendly breed. In my opinion they arent meant to free range unless it is a fenced yard or something due to they dont see well due to their puffs and they cant fly so yeah a predator will go after them first usually because of this reason. But if you are looking for a wonderful pet or for show i think they are a great bird i also have other breeds of chickens. The only down fall for me is i keep buying hens and then they turn out to be roosters good luck on finding what you are looking for!

Okay there is this silkie roo that I want so bad!!! would he be better of in my "cochin pen" which has - 8 cohcin bantam hens, one mixed cochin bantam roo and one buff brahma bantam or would he be better in my "big pen" which has - 2 leghorns (1 mediteranian,1 pearl), 1 silver laced wyanndot, and 2 RIR?

Thanks all!!!!
