Currently I have 10 chicks, three Rhode Island Reds, 3 sex link, Three Easter egger, and one red production. I am going to buy two more today. My choices are white leg bar, welsummer, Rhode Island red, or black sexlink (my others are gold). My main goal in having chickens is eggs! But I am very impatient, so I was thinking leg bars because I heard that they have eggs 4 1/2 months of age. Is this true? Also, about the leg bars are there eggs big or little? I already know they Are flighty birds, and I don't care about that. Any opinions?

Welcome to BYC!
I've had welsummers before. They laid beautiful brown eggs, which I think were pretty large. We also had 2 RIRs. They were great layers of large eggs, very sweet. I've never haas white leg bars, so I don't know about their eggs. I've never had black sexlinks either, but I would like to get some in the near future, mainly because I've read they're great layers and can be sexed at a young age.
Whatever you get, congratulations!

So I picked up 2 white leghorns and I was surprised to also find an Orpington. I would like to try next year to have the Orpington hatch eggs. Didn't get the sex thinks and I wanted to, it was really strange because all the birds in the brooder at the supply store were wet! They had fallen in the water! It was horrible. I figured that not very many of those birds are going to live because they were all shaking and cold. So I didn't want to buy any from that particular brooder and that's where both the welsummers and the black sex links were. In the future I would like a welsummer to have their Rich colored eggs!
