I bought some hatching eggs to put under my broody Buff. Today is hatch day and one of them hatched. I found it right after, pecked in the head, dead. There are four other hens in my coop and the broody is the lowest in the pecking order, so I'm wondering if one of the other hens killed it. I moved her to her own coop and run, but she ran out into the yard and is not sitting on the eggs. I have candled the eggs and there is a chick in all six. Should I lock her up with the eggs and hope that she sits on them again, or should I take them in the house and put a lamp on them and hope they hatch out? The chick that hatched looked perfect aside from the hole in it's head. Is it likely that the broody killed it? It's her first time, but she was very dedicated as a setter.
