Ditto on a getting a BIGGER coop

our 4 x 8 coop houses six hens (RIR-Delaware) and no room for more ... famous last words often spoken here are "should have built a bigger coop"

Cow girl ,i used to work there ( petco)as a lead in the aquatics dept , and highly disagreed w thier advertising , thankfully i saved many a customer from a bad expierience when starting up an aquarium

I certainly didn't mean it as a dig against Petco, I just wanted a picture to back up my point and that was the first one I came across. Most - if not all - aquarium kits have pictures like that on them.

Didn't mean to derail your thread Egg Rookie 2010! I'll be good now.

I do agree with the others though. Build a bigger coop than what you think you need, because before long it will be full.

I uploaded a photo to my page (I think that is where it saved to...) how do I post it here? I click on the IMG button which I thought meant image and would let me choose....HELP! Anyway we got the framing done today...and put the door on. It is 8 x 10 and thats 5.33 sq foot per bird (I have 15 babies coming) 1 partrige cochin baby boy...LOL...and the girls are: 3 rhode island whites, 4 cuckoo marans, 5 EE's, 2 jersey black giants

cowgirl you rock thank you! I browsed around and just couldnt find the answer myself. OK so here is the framing on the coop we did today. Tomorrow will be siding. I hope I do this photo thing correctly.

It's green all over this valley with all the rain we've gotten over the last couple weeks.

Never believe advertising for coop size, it's always exaggerated about how many chickens fit.

Yes I took that photo yesterday the uh....14th I think it was. Very green but I buried the F350 truck up to the axles in the mud last week when I drove out in the pasture to mend a fence. It had been raining soooo much we are way beyond average here. I see another valley girl here...HELLO!

becoming a new pet owner should be a positive exp not a neg one , i hated being mis informed when i was younger and just starting out ! Sometimes i go into to a petstore and ask stupid ?'s just to see how educated the employees are lol:p

Thats good advice!!! You'll be sorry. Bigger is better. My first coop was total 230 sq feet. Second coop 330 sq feet. I have 11
chickens in the 230 sq foot coop & will be putting 25 chickens in the 330 sq foot coop.
