I need answers ASAP. Tyson has a huge chicken barn across the street from me, they told me to get r

I've got to say, there is no WAY I could have a home within 1/2 mile of a poultry farm. Those things reek to high heaven - the stench is unbearable just driving by. :/

I firmly believe the big production farms are where most of our problems with our food is from. This is why we got chickens in the first place, I feel 100% better knowing my eggs are coming from chickens raised in a clean and happy enviroment.

I totally agree, that is why I started doing meat birds, I got a video on how they were treated, and thought I can do better then that, since then I haven't bought store bought for years.

This thread is confusing to say the least.

1. Be very polite but very firm - Tell the old owners and Tyson to go pound salt.
2. Add more chickens to your flock and put your pen as close as possible to the Tyson property.
3. If necessary call a lawyer and have them be your voice.
4. Make sure you call the local news paper and TV news station(s) and tell them your story. If there is any need for a face-to-face discussion with Tyson or the previous owner make sure the cameras are rolling.
5. Tell Tyson to move their operation away from YOU as you do not want YOUR flock contaminated.
6. If necessary, get your shotgun and run around the yard like you're crazy. Just kidding.

Seriously, do not allow anyone to tell you how you must live. Ever.

Please keep us up to date on this story.

We'll have no rights at all if we don't stand our ground. Seems like our government wants to control our means to feed our selves and our means of protecting ourselves.

They are saying its because my BYC can be carriers of diseases that can be caught airborne
I am raising them to be drug free unless a sickness is present, then I will give them meds, otherwise they will be free range chickens

Shoot, their chickens will never see the light of day anyway,so how could they catch anything from your chickens? I would not get rid of my chickens.

How far is it where your chickens are to where the Tyson chickens roam. It does not sound like you are sharing a fence line. Can you see their chickens from where your chickens are?
I would tell them, if told to get rid of your chickens, "To Take Their Chickens & Shove It".
We live on a acre, and there is a HOA of sorts, but we never got any bylaws when we moved in, as to what you can or can not have on the property. A neighbor said the paper she got years ago said, no swine or horses, but there are some neighbors who have horses anyway.

So just enjoy your chickens & all the happy eggs you get from them.

You have rights - but are required to exercise them.

Unless by law or by Restrictions on your deed, you should not have to give up your chickens. Being nice is one thing, giving up your rights and desires is another. You can be kind to your neighbors without giving up your rights. I would consult a lawyer - but first, check your county and local laws, and check your CCRs (deeded restrictions).

The more I think about this the more I think it's about them thinking they will lose money, I am surrounded by water so we have wild geese, ducks, loons, etc as a matter of fact I was just out doors checking onmyflock and looked outto the pond and I have about 5 wild ducks in it.
So if this was really a rule than Tyson wouldn't want to have there chicken houses next to a lake or a river.
Also the land next to them on both sides is for sale, I heard they were being sold as mini farm acreages, how would Tyson stop those people from having chickens, ducks, geese, etc?
Now that I have read what everyone is writing and I have calmed down a bit, this doesn't feel right, something is wrong here, and I got to tell you it's probably that nice old couple worried about losing money if my chickens get sick and pass it on to them, but don't they have some type of air filtration for those chicken barns? I have never smelled them, ever. I do know that they are putting tons of antibiotics in the water and the food, they told me they were, so how can they catch something from my birds?
I started raising these chickens because I am allergic to something in our foods, , I was told to raise my own food so I can stay healthy. I believe that's just what I am going to do until I get a legal paper telling me something different.
However I may move my flock to the back of the barn instead of on the side of my house lol
They won't be able to see them, but the stud horse won't let any wild critters get to them either.
I will keep you guys up dated on my drama lol
Thanks for all the support and all the advise
Hugs
Lainey
