I was wondering how I could get better laying quality I have 25 females and one male but I am only getting 6 eggs a day how do I fix this problem. I sell fertile quail eggs and I have someone that want 30 a week I usually do better then that My best is 15 quail eggs a day. What is the best feed or secrets.

LOL no you're not. I bet you're selling infertile eggs...

To up your fertility keep 1 roo per 3 hens.

To up your egg laying keep your hens stress free and give 24 hour access to clean water, feed, and calcium supplement. If your hens don't have 14 hours of light per day they will not lay regularly.

My 11 hens give me an average of 8 eggs a day. When I clean out the bedding in their aviary egg laying drops to 5 for a couple of days. They don't like change. Change = stress.

Yea I was about to say the same thing, that you're not selling fertile eggs.

I have seen sometimes that the girls did seem to need male attention to lay eggs (hormones, maybe). But that seems to go against the idea that female quail should lay eggs a lot anyway, which scientifically is related to number of hours of light and stress-free environment as mentioned above.

What are you feeding them? I don't know how quail know but they seem to lay better if their food, such as giving them layer crumbles, gives them the proper nutrients for laying.

Well I will hatch my own eggs and I get a very successful hatch. I only have one male because he got out when I opened the run door I tried everything to catch him but I lost him in the tall grass in the meadow. The people I sell them to say That they get very nice hatch that's why they keep buying my eggs. They are also out side so that's the light cycle they have I guess. They have clean water I make shore I clean it everyday and food but I ran out of there food I feed them gamebird layer crumbles and I switched it to scratch grains for a while until I can get to the store. I just moved them to so that could be whats messing them up to.

Sounds like you have a roo on Viagra, props for him taking care of so many hens.

My guess on the drop in laying is change in general. It should pick up soon.

I must haha. Maybe it is the scratch grains there isn't really any nutreince in it I just like to have some around just in case and I just moved them So maybe they gust have to get used to the new location. Maybe they are taking a break to. Thanks.

I have been feeding them scratch grains because I always have that around for when I run out of food for them but I feed them gamebird growth and plumage or just normal omega 3 layena crumbles from tractor supply the quails love it and produce a lot of eggs so I guess that will solve my problem but I live really far from a tractor supply and there the only place were I can get chicken feed. The scratch grains has no nutritional value I know but it is still good to have around. But I only feed the growth and plumage to the quail before shows or the winter because it makes the gain weight and make their feathers nice and full.

I would agree with eHuman "They don't like change. Change = stress."
We had dramatic drop in egg production when we removed our extra males for butcher... They were in pens beside our layers... They did not like the change....
Can also say changing the feed will effect it too. Have the same issue as you when it comes to feed. Our tractor supply does not carry the game bird feed so have to go to other side of county for it at local feed store.
And man your Roo is working overtime.... LOL
