Re: temperature, I think a lot of people have had luck with those ones that record your daily high/low, that way if you have a spike you at least know that it happened. Still calibrate it.

Words can be deceiving. I know what you what you mean by "clear veins" but another may not use the right definition. Clear as in distinct-easily visible.

Still air should be a constant 102. That's possible, incubators should be kept in a very stable environment. Have you actually calibrated the thermometer? I've also had really bad luck with styrofoam incubators. I know some have decent hatch rates in them, but I just don't like them. I've never tried the fancier ones (like a Hovabator) though.
I think thats his biggest problem there is sooooo much conflicting information about temperatures and humidity. I bought him an incubator because I just feel like this whole dimmer light bulb thing is to fluctuating.
