Hello everyone! so yesterday I lost a second bird to a prolapse vent, this is the second bird in a little over a month. She was a BR. First one was a Minorca. Broke my heart to lose her! I don't know if its something im doing or not doing! My birds are spoiled, they are my buddies, I feed them Purina layer pellets, fresh water everyday, i poopie scoop couple times a week, they are given dried mealies as snacks once a week, bamboo leaves, fresh grass clippings (no chemicals), I thought I was doing everything right, they seemed very happy and active, especially when they saw me!. they have been giving me a egg a day, sometimes the eggs would have double yokes. Is it possible i bought a bad batch of birds? i bought them off a semi local guy on craigslist, they were pullets when i got them in November. please help.

Hens that lay eggs every day are more at risk for reproductive problems, prolapse, and egg binding. Some causes of egg binding are low calcium levels, dehydration, constipation, and prior vent damage from a prior prolapse or vent pecking. Here is a good link about prolapsed vents:
